This is the largest and most glorious of the 3 new Steiff replicas for spring 2011. As can be read below he was a real puzzle for the Steiff designers to get right. Steiff also had trouble posing him in a way that his magnificence could be best appreciated in a photograph. At JustTeddies we think that Steiff have cracked the design. He really is delightful in that understated way that makes you appreciate him more. He is the sort of very classic bear that when you look at him he appears slightly different each time. We especially like the way that his nose and mouth, hand stitched and shaven of course, compliment his two tone eyes. The eyes of this bear are extremely similar to those seen on the 1925 replica and the 2011 collectors bear also availalble on this site. That is because such eyes, with a thick brown outer ring and deep black centre, were used widely in the 1920's, a style that has come back into fashion this year.
At JustTeddies we think that this Steiff replica bear is distinguished, charming, and the ultimate piece to have in any collection.
There's something special about our 1921 Replica that was exceptionally hard to capture.
In fact, Steiff first discovered this Teddy four years ago and its been on the "drawing board" since. Last year, a designer decided to take a fresh look at the project. He saw something in the eyes and forehead that others hadn't noticed before. Suddenly, the solution became clear to him. The design then quickly fell into place.
This gorgeous bear is made of a specially dyed brown bleached and distressed mohair. There is shaving around the muzzle and eyes, with airbrushed accents as well. Like all true replicas, this one is excelsior stuffed for a traditional feel.
The result is pure perfection.
As will all our limited edition and replica Steiff teddy bears and animals, the 1921 replica will be supplied with a certificate of authenticity showing the edition number (e.g. 0001 of 1921).
